GYNAECOLOGICAL CANCER
Gynaecological cancer is the overall term for cancers that start anywhere within the female reproductive system or genitals and include:
Ovarian Cancer
The symptoms of ovarian cancer can be vague, with abdominal pain often reported as the most common. In many cases, the cancer is found during an internal (vaginal) examination when a doctor feels a lump in the abdomen.
Endometrial Cancer
Abnormal bleeding in older women who have gone through the menopause is the most common symptom of a cancer tumour growing in the endometrium – the lining of the uterus (womb).
Cancer of the Vulva
Cancer of the vulva, the genital area outside a woman's body, is very rare. Common symptoms are bleeding, itching or a burning feeling in the vulval area.
Cervical Cancer
Symptoms of cervical cancer include bleeding between periods, after or during sex and at any time after the menopause. A diagnosis can often be made during a vaginal examination.
Dr Heron diagnoses and treats gynaecological pre- cancer using a number of different procedures including surgery and Laser treatment. In some cases, and for certain types of tumours, he may refer you to a gynaecological oncologist who specialises in treating cancers of this nature.
