HORMONAL PROBLEMS

Our hormones dictate virtually every function of our body and most women will, at some time in their lives, experience the effects of some hormonal imbalance. At its mildest, an imbalance will mean nothing more than mild PMS (See CONDITIONS: PRE-MENSTRUAL SYNDROME) in the days building up to a period. At its worst, an imbalance will bring hugely disruptive and severe symptoms, particularly in the approach to, and during, menopause (See CONDITIONS: MENOPAUSE)

The range of emotional and physical problems related to hormonal imbalance is vast and includes: mood swings, crying for no reason, irritability, fatigue and a lack of energy, decreased memory, anxiety, hot flashes and night sweats, loss of interest in sex, difficulty losing weight, changes in skin and hair, acne, thinning of hair on the scalp and increased hair on face or body. In addition, women may experience headaches, full or painful breasts, fluid retention, cramps and aching muscles and joints.

There are the changes an imbalance can cause the menstrual cycle:

periods that are infrequent – or too frequent, regular ‘spotting’ (small amounts of bleeding) between periods, very heavy periods, periods that never seem to stop and severe debilitating cramps.
Little wonder that many women turn to Dr Heron for help. Depending on the severity and cause of your symptoms, he will advise you on your options for rebalancing your hormone levels and helping to restore you back to your old self. (See PROCEDURES: NATURAL HORMONE THERAPY)
