OVARIAN CYSTS
An ovarian cyst is a growth inside the ovary which can be solid, or filled with fluid and is usually non-cancerous. Sometimes the cyst grows on the outside of the ovary, attached to the exterior by a stem.
Not all women with ovarian cysts require treatment. In many cases the cysts can be checked regularly by ultrasound and if left alone, will shrink with time. However, for other women the cysts are painful and may need to be removed, usually by laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery.
