POLYCYSTIC OVARY SYNDROME (PCOS)

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a hormonal imbalance responsible for a variety of symptoms which can be mild to severe and include: no periods or irregular periods, excess hair growth on the face and body, acne, increased bodyweight, recurrent miscarriage and infertility. In fact, PCOS is one of the major causes of female infertility.

In many cases, women with PCOS have enlarged ovaries containing many small cysts.
A variety of treatments are available including birth control pills to regulate menstrual periods for women who have not reached menopause, and other medication to help control the symptoms.
