PREMENSTRUAL SYNDROME (PMS)

Hormone level change is considered the likely cause of premenstrual syndrome (or PMS) - the feelings of irritability, tension, anger, fatigue and depression experienced by many women in the time leading up to their menstrual period and often, during the first few days.

For most women, the symptoms of PMS are not serious enough to require treatment.  For others, their reactions during this time can have detrimental effect on their lives, and that of their families. In some cases simple lifestyle changes including cutting down on alcohol and cigarettes and avoiding certain foods, such as coffee and foods high in salt, can bring relief.

Dr Heron can give you guidance on treatment options depending on the nature of your PMS.
